Khan Academy
https://www.khanacademy.org/
Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
Helping Your Child with Homework
https://www2.ed.gov/parents/academic/help/homework/index.html
Homework has been part of students' lives since the beginning of formal schooling in the United States. It is important because it can improve children's thinking and memory. It can help them to develop positive study skills and habits that will serve them well throughout their lives. It can encourage them to use time well, to learn independently and to take responsibility for their work. But helping children with their homework benefits families as well. It can, for example, be a way for families to learn more about what their children are learning in school and an opportunity for them to communicate both with their children and with teachers and principals.
Istation - Mixing Technology and Teaching
https://www.istation.com/
Pilot Istation through June 30 for home-based progress monitoring, online lessons
/ Home Access to Adaptive Instruction.
During school closings this spring, districts and campuses can subscribe to Istation's computer-adaptive Indicators of Progress (ISIP™) for access to home-based progress monitoring assessments, online reports, and interactive lessons.
ISIP Progress Monitoring at Home automatically assesses students each month before seamlessly placing them into adaptive web-based instruction.
Build foundational skills, strengthen mastery, boost achievement, and predict student success while focusing on scientifically driven methods based on the science of reading, the National Research Council, the National Reading Panel, and others.
Aligned to individual state standards and Common Core State Standards, Istation's assessments, instruction, and teacher-directed lessons also support English-language instruction and special education.
Working together, Istation's formative assessments, student data, instructional resources, and dynamic support deliver actionable data that drives intervention and instruction with:
- Assessments of skills that predict student success
- Automatic screeners and progress monitoring
- Precise measurements
- Seamless placement
- On-demand assessments
- Assessment modeling for young learner
Literacy The Key to Success: Tips for Middle School Parents
https://www.aft.org/sites/default/files/literacytips_middle.pdf
This publication from the American Federation of Teachers aims to provide you with information to explain the standards (or expectations) for what students should know and be able to do in reading, writing, language, speaking and listening. Students will use these literacy skills across subjects; therefore, parents should expect to see evidence that students are reading, writing, speaking and listening, and using appropriate language and vocabulary not only in the language arts classroom but also in content areas, including science, math, history/social studies, technology, foreign language, vocational arts, physical education and the arts. This booklet provides examples of some of the important skills students will be expected to learn and demonstrate, as well as some suggestions on how you can help support your child’s learning at home. We also have provided the links and web addresses to some helpful sites where you can find more information and resources, including videos.
