May 24, 2021

Good afternoon, LJI families & staff,

In order to successfully and safely close out our 2020-2021 school year, we will be implementing the following End-of-Year guidelines and procedures for Tuesday, May 25 through Thursday, May 27.

In order for us to ensure only school-appropriate items are brought the last week of school, the following items listed below are the only items that will be permitted for the last three days.  Teachers will provide all supplies, materials, and activities in their classrooms, so students do not need to bring any personal items/supplies.  Any items that are brought to school (backpacks, sling/drawstring bags, large zipper binders, etc.) will be confiscated and given back to the student at the end of the school day.  There are also no end-of-year parties in classrooms; we have planned alternative celebrations during lunches this week.  Therefore, students should not be buying/bringing large bottles of soda/energy drinks, chips/snacks, etc. to school.  As expected for the entire school year, only water bottles with water are allowed in the classrooms. This will not only help us to minimize trash around the building, but also decrease the number of incidents of the building being vandalized or damaged.

We will still maintain the same expectations at the end of the year, as we have all year. Students are also still expected to follow our Student Code of Conduct and dress code.  Blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. still cannot be brought to school.  Student gifts, deliveries, and gift exchanges will also still not be allowed or accepted.

Allowable items to school:
Library books- we are still collecting missing library books; students can return book(s) to the library or their ELA teacher:
1) Lunch bags
2) Small purse/bag
3) Cell phones
4) ID badges
5) Yearbook & pen (No Sharpies)

Also, the dismissal release has been adjusted to allow students to exit the building quicker and less crowds. It will be based on the student's 8th period class.
The change is as follows:
7th grade down/Fine Arts- 3:12p
7th grade up/CTE- 3:14p
8th grade down/PE - 3:16p
8th grade up- 3:18p

As students are dismissed, they will be asked to immediately exit the building.  Students will no longer need to be picking up instruments, and there are no tutorials this week.

Again, these changes are starting Tuesday, May 25 through Thursday, May 27.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8th grade Parade-- RAIN OR SHINE!
Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 25 from 5:30p-6:30p, we will be having our 8th grade car parade.  If the weather cooperates with us, we will have it in the front of the building.  If it is raining, we will move it to the back of the building, so our staff can have some covering.  We will send a communication out by 5:00p tomorrow to let you know where to find us, as we celebrate our 8th graders moving to BWood!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday, May 27 is a half-day for our LJI students.  The below schedule is our modified bell schedule.  We will have a grab 'n go sack lunch for students to take, if they choose, as they are dismissed.

Schedule for Thursday, May 27:

School Schedule

We appreciate your partnership as we have gone through an unprecedented and challenging two years.  We appreciate all of you for your grace, support, flexibility, and understanding as we finish strong!

Good afternoon, LJI families,

Thank you for support as we completed our week of STAAR testing.  As we begin to successfully close out the school year and prepare for the next, please read the below information.  The AP's will also be sending more information early next week about end-of-year incentives and our 8th grade parade.

Registration:
Online Registration for the 2021-22 school year is now available for all current BISD students. We encourage you to save time and register your child online by visiting the B*Registered webpage on our BISD website. Please contact the registrar, Ms. Kelsey Beach.

Chromebook Collection:
LJI student technology (Chromebooks & charger, district loaner(s), and hot spots) are being collected May 17-19. Please refer to the email sent out on Thursday, May 13 or our LJI Facebook page for details on how we will collect technology for both F2F and virtual students.

STAAR MAKE-UP TESTING:
STAAR Make-up sessions will begin Monday. Students that were absent on STAAR testing days (per TEA) must be given an opportunity to make-up the test.

Tuesday, May 18th is the Reading STAAR Makeup Day
Wednesday, May 19th is the Math STAAR Makeup Day.

Additional make-up days may be added in order to accommodate those who need to test.

NJHS:
Due to COVID restrictions this year, we will hold off NJHS induction for the beginning of the school year next year, where our families and students can experience a full celebration.

Physical Exams:
By UIL regulation, all students participating in athletics or marching band activities for the 2021-2022 school year will be required to receive a PPE. Only those students who participated in athletics during their seventh grade year for the 2020-2021 school year are exempted from this rule.  BISD district policy states that physicals need to be conducted after May 1st of the previous school year, before entering the fall semester. Failing to do so will impact your child’s athletic eligibility.

Have a safe and relaxing weekend,

Good afternoon, LJI parents/guardians,

THIS WEEK IS STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!  We would love to hear from you as we celebrate our staff and all the hard work they have put in this past year, despite all the obstacles thrown their way.  Feel free to complete this form if you'd like to give a shout-out to a staff member and feel free to fill out as many forms as you'd like!  Once you submit your form(s), we'll make sure to get those shout-outs to our staff!  Thank you for helping us recognize our LJI staff!

This week also begins our 2nd round of state testing.  Please review the following documents to ensure our Panthers are prepared for these upcoming weeks.  We also wanted to share that we are preparing various end-of-year PBIS activities for our 7th and 8th graders.   The following will/may be considered in order for students to participate in certain activities:

- Tardies (including 1st period tardies)

- Discipline

- Fines & Fees

- Grades

More information will be coming out later this week.  If you know your student has fines & fees, such as lost library books, student ID badge replacements, we will be updating you on how much is owed.

STAAR:
Last week, you received an email from our Dean of Instruction and Testing Coordinator, Ms. Minter, about our upcoming STAAR/EOC testing logistics and dates.  Please refer to the attachments for reminders as we begin the final round of STAAR 2021 testing this week and next week.

STAAR Scores Access:
The links below contain a letter detailing the release dates for STAAR as well as step-by-step instructions on how to access the online portal.  Included also is a new handout from TEA regarding STAAR this year, the last page in the PDF.  These links are also posted on our district website.

Big Sale:

https://brazosport.revtrak.net/ms/ljis/#/v/sale-school-shirts

Dab Pens:
We wanted to inform you that “dab pens” are becoming more prevalent in current society. These are similar to “vape pens” that have nicotine/tobacco, but instead hold THC oil (marijuana). While vaping (nicotine/tobacco) is prohibited under the age of 21 and not allowable for anyone (regardless of age) on a school campus, Dab pens are illegal for anyone in the state of Texas, very dangerous for your students, and come with high consequences (can be punishable as a felony). Here is an article that may help explain these devices. https://www.verywellmind.com/marijuana-dabbing-4797506

Thank you for helping us help your students to choose their actions wisely. This is just information to help you bridge a conversation with your student. Both Vape pens and Dab pens hold other chemicals that are very dangerous to lungs when inhaled. Stories/articles have been showing up in newscasts and educational seminars, so we wanted to share with our parents/guardians to keep them informed.

April 15, 2021

Good afternoon, Panther families!

School Holiday:
Friday, April 16 is a student and staff holiday.  We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 19.

Student Safety During Arrival:
When students are arriving at school in the morning, we have LJI staff members who are out at duty waving traffic forward.  Please watch for them and follow their direction; this will help to expedite student drop-offs in the morning, especially on rainy days.  Also, when driving through the parking lot, please be slow and cautious, even after you have dropped off your student(s).  There are cars backing in and out, as well as students with their parents, and/or staff members walking across.  Thank you for your support in keeping our students and staff safe.

Note from the Nurse:
On Wednesday, April 21, 2021 and Thursday, April 22, 2021, the Nurse's Office will begin the annual required spinal screening for all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys. Your child will be examined for possible spinal curvature problems. The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal  curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Students must remove their shirt for this exam, therefore we recommend girls wear a sports bra or two piece swimsuit top underneath their clothing on exam day. If you choose not to have your child screened, you must submit a doctor's note stating your student has already been screened this year. Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow-up is necessary. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Deborah Kaspar, RN at 979-730-7250 or [email protected] for any questions or concerns.

Parent Survey:
We are so thankful for your partnership during this most unique year. In our efforts to continue to best serve you and your student, please complete this survey 2020-2021 End-of-Year Parent Survey. The survey should take from 8-11 minutes to complete. We appreciate your time as this survey information provides us with meaningful feedback.

March 30, 2021

Good afternoon, LJI families,

STAAR Testing
Tuesday, April 6 is the 7th grade Writing STAAR.  We will be testing both 7th grade Face-to-Face  and Virtual (Remote) students.  Our campus will be shut down; no visitors will be allowed or meetings occur during this time.  It takes our entire staff to administer and/or maintain a testing environment.  Therefore, if you want to reach a staff member or student, please call the school, and the message will be relayed to him/her.  If your student is testing, we ask that you do not schedule appointments on this day.
A STAAR letter will be sent out separately to help you and your student(s) to be ready and prepared.

Getting in Touch with your child(ren)
We understand that oftentimes you may need to reach out to your student during the school day.  Students are to have cell phones put away all day, unless during their lunch time.  Therefore, please do not expect an immediate response from your child throughout the school day.  If you need to relay important information to your student, please call the school, and we will give them the message.  This will also prevent students from getting their phone confiscated for having it out in the hallways/classrooms.

Student Holiday
This Friday, April 2, it is a student holiday.  We will not have F2F or asynchronous learning on this day.

Have a blessed Easter weekend,

Good afternoon, LJI families,

The third grading period has officially come to a close today.  We hope that you and your family are able to enjoy some quality time together and rest during Spring Break before we head into the final stretch and FINISH STRONG for the school year.

Spring  Break:
BISD will be on Spring Break next week, March 8-12.  During this time, though the governor has rescinded mask-wearing and released businesses to be opened at capacity, we urge you to still be safe and healthy by wearing your mask, social distancing as much as possible, and avoiding large crowds.  Here are some CDC guidelines in how to remain safe and healthy during Spring Break.  We want our students to return to campus healthy, so they are able to participate and not miss out on all of our upcoming Spring events (Fine Arts performances and concerts, athletic/sport events, etc.).

COVID-19 Update:

Please view Superintendent Massey's COVID-19 Message.  BISD will continue to follow the Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines in mask wearing, social distancing, and all BISD mitigation and prevention strategies in order to keep our students and staff safe, so that we can keep our schools open.

Testing:
Following Spring Break, our Face-to-Face (F2F) students will be completing their final week of Mock STAAR & Interim testing.  Please help support our students by ensuring they arrive to school on time and bring their charged Chromebook and Chromebook charger each day.  Parents of virtual students will receive a separate email in regards to testing dates/times and logistics.

Stay safe, stay healthy!  We will see everyone back on Monday, March 15!

In preparation for this meeting, please ensure that your student has filled out page 5 of the Educational Planning Guide [EPG] (Blue and tan book they received in their History class). If your student did not bring one home, please have them pick on up from their History teacher. Good afternoon, LJI families!

What a week it was last week... I, along with the entire LJI staff, have been thinking about and praying for you and your loved ones through this time.  Words cannot even begin to describe the trauma and aftermath the LJI community and staff have endured and experienced.  If you were affected by last week's winter storm, please do not hesitate to reach out to our counselors, or you can visit this district document of resources.  We were so excited to have welcomed back our students this past Monday and have a sense of "normalcy" again.  Whether your student is face-to-face or virtual, if there are any needs or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Community Resources After Freeze 2021.pdf

Parent Concerns:
In order to best support you and address any questions/concerns you may have, please read the attached letter.  We wanted to clarify who to reach out to, so your questions/concerns are addressed in the most expedient manner.  Please read the attachment for the process.
Parent Front Office Process 9-4.pdf

Grades:
The end of the 3rd grading period is next Friday, March 5.  Please sit down with your student this weekend to review their grades.  If they have missing assignments, please have him/her and/or you reach out to the teacher to get that taken care of.  With our additional week off we had last week, students may have forgotten what they did not complete the previous week before the winter storm.

The administration, along with teachers, will begin to have meetings in the coming weeks and months about students, who potentially may be recommended for summer school or even retention.  Grades, attendance, work ethic, and behaviors are all factors we discuss when looking at student placement for next school year.

Morning Drop-Offs:
Our front car rider line is backing up in the mornings due to various reasons.  In order to help facilitate a quicker and more timely drop-off in the morning for students to be on time to their first period, please be sure you are following the below procedures.  We have noticed an increase of 7th graders being dropped off in the front, so if you're a parent of a 7th grader, please make sure they're dropped off on the side.

  • Bus riders will be dropped off in the back drive(entrance on Oak Drive); no parent drop-offs are allowed in the back drive.
  • 7th graders will be dropped off in the side drive (entrance on Circle Way). Oak Drive Doors closing promptly at 7:30a. Students arriving after the 7:30 bell are required to report to the front main entrance.
  • 8th graders will be dropped off in the front drive (entrance on Oyster Creek)
    • When dropping in the front, please follow the traffic flow maintained by the staff member(s) on duty
    • Avoid stopping to drop off a student while the line is moving
    • The drop off zone is between the first awning and the second awning.  Do not drop students off beyond the second awning.
  • Families, who have a 7th and 8th grader, can drop off and pick-up at either the front or side drive.
  • We ask that car riders be dropped off no later than 7:20am to have enough time to get to class on time.
  • For students who eat breakfast on campus, we ask students to be dropped off no later than 7:15am to have time to eat and be on time for first period.
  •

February 23, 2021

Good afternoon, LJI families,

If you are receiving this email, your student is currently enrolled at LJI as a virtual student.  We are approaching the end of our 3rd grading period, and the start of our 4th and final grading period will begin after Spring Break. Because of this grading period change, it will allow us one final opportunity to transition our virtual students to face-to-face if desired.  Therefore, if you would like your virtual student to return back to campus for the final grading period, please reach out to our counselors Ms. Joey Bryson (7th grade) or Ms. Kathryn Bloom (8th grade).  You may either contact them by calling 979-730-7250 and asking for the guidance office or emailing them directly at joey.bryson@brazosportisd.net or kathryn.bloom@brazosportisd.net.  The grade-level counselor will reach out to you via phone or email once the schedule change has been processed and share logistics for the student returning back to campus.

The deadline to request for a change from virtual to face-to-face must be made by this Friday, February 26 at 4:00p.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Good Afternoon, Panther families,

It's hard to believe, but we have finished our first month of 2021!

Proper Mask Wearing:
We need your help in reminding students that masks need to be worn over their nose and their mouths while at school.  This is to help us protect each other and minimize the spread as much as possible.  Students, who consistently do not properly wear their masks, may be given a consequence.

Intermediate Basketball Games:
Due to social distance protocols and ensuring the safety of our school community, only player's families, who have tickets, can attend the game. They can only attend the one game their child plays in, and all fans will be asked to clear out the stands in between games.  At this time, there will NOT be a student section.

Visitations/Drop-Off's:
Per the district guidelines and to limit exposure, informal campus visits will continue to be restricted. Item drop-offs or deliveries for students will not be accepted, even if a student calls you to drop an item off. We will continue to remind students that they cannot call/text you to bring up items. This is also a good learning opportunity to teach our students the responsibility in making sure they have all their supplies, materials, athletic gear, instruments, ID badge, mask, etc. gathered each evening to ensure they are ready for the next school day.  Also to ensure the safety of students and staff, no outside food deliveries will be accepted (i.e. food, gifts, doordash, etc.). Campus visitors are limited to those essential for school operations.  If you are wanting to meet with any campus staff member, please call ahead of time for availability. Essential meetings will be done by appointment or through a virtual format.

Good afternoon, LJI families!

It was an EXCELLENT first 3-days back! We are so glad to have almost all of our 759 F2F students back on campus... our students brought the building back to life with their energy and presence!

Spring Back to School Information
This document was sent out this past Tuesday.  If you haven't had time, please review this information with your student(s).

Spring Semester Schedules
Due to the large number of students returning from virtual learning, along with changes traditionally found between semesters, our counselors are working diligently to ensure that multiple requirements are met which may lead to a change in teacher. The need for social distancing, course sequence and credits required by the Texas Education Agency, and supporting teachers with class sizes are only a few of the factors that drive the parameters placed on our automated scheduling system. The already limited flexibility counselors have had in the past to make schedule changes is even more limited this year due to COVID restrictions and modes of instructional delivery (face-to-face/virtual).

Please be aware that there is a process for communicating schedule needs. On Monday morning, January 11, LJI Counselors will post in the “Panther Den,” which is the LJI Google classroom, a Google Form that allows students to make scheduling requests. The form, “Spring 2021 Schedule Change Request,” will close at 3:30p on Wednesday, January 13th. If your student is requesting a change into or out of a band, choir, or orchestra, they must complete this form and have the director email their grade level counselor after they have spoken with a parent/guardian. Students will be contacted once their request has been submitted. ONLY schedule changes submitted through the form will be considered. Please refrain from calling or emailing regarding a schedule change request as this slows the process; our counselors will work diligently to process requests as submitted.

Mid-Of-Year Benchmarks
Because LJI closed the building a week earlier in December due to our COVID numbers, our students will be taking their Mid-year benchmark assessments next week.  The data from these assessments will help us know how to better serve, prepare and meet each student's needs and increase their academic success as we move forward in the semester.  We ask that you help us by making sure students are getting a good night's rest and are on time to school in the mornings.  If you can avoid taking students out early, that would also be greatly appreciated.

Parent Self Serve Portal
The district provided a slideshow on 'How to Navigate Parent Self Serve' for parents/guardians: How to Navigate Parent Self Serve. It helps guide parents/guardians through each tab in Parent Self Serve explaining where they can find information and tips on how to set triggers.   We hope this information is helpful to you as you continue to stay involved in your child(ren)'s schooling.

Current 8th Grade Parents
Brazoswood is hosting an upcoming transition meeting on January 19.  Please see the flyer for more details.

School Report Card
Attached is our campus report card from the State.  The school will provide a printed copy to anyone who cannot access the electronic version of the SRC upon request.

School Holiday
January 18 is a student and staff holiday.  There will not be F2F or virtual/remote learning on this day.

Good afternoon, LJI families!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! So glad to be able to say we're in the year 2021!

We hope that you were able to get some much needed rest and quality time with loved ones this winter break. We are ECSTATIC to have over 90% of our students return back to campus tomorrow, January 6.  In an effort to ensure that we are all on the same page, we're sharing a Spring version of "Back to School," as there have been some changes and over 100 students returning to F2F school for the first time since March 2020. We ask that you carefully review with your students the "Back to School Information" attached, especially the changes made it red.

All students will report to their first period class for their new schedule.  Students can check their student portal online at 3:30p today, January 5, to see their schedule and which 1st period to report to first thing in the morning.

Students can access updated information on The Den @ LJI (LJI's Google Classroom).  Parents can also access updated information via our Facebook page, LJI website, Twitter page, and via our weekly Key Communicator.  We are committed to making sure that we do a better job this semester of updating all our various social media platforms, so parents are abreast of any new and updated (and ever changing) information.

We appreciate your continued partnership, support, and look forward to this new year.  We truly still believe that this school year is still going to be our BEST YEAR YET!

December 18, 2020

Good morning, LJI families!

It's hard to believe that our first semester has come to a close.  2020 has been a year like no other.. from COVID to living a new normal with masks, social distancing from loved wants, learning how to "do school" in a different way, in addition to having the  Naegleria fowleri bacteria in our water  and then having to close our school building early due to the increase COVID numbers... just to name a few.  Through it all, we appreciate the flexibility, patience, support, and partnership from each of you.  We are so grateful and blessed to have such an amazing school community.  We hope that during this holiday season you and your family are able to spend some quality time together, get some much needed rest and relaxation, and take a pause to reflect on the positives even through these unprecedented times.  I know I will be excited to meet my new nephew, Michael William Tsang. He was born on December 16, coming in at a whopping 8 lbs 10 oz & 22 inches long.  I was able to meet him via Facetime and am already so in love!

Below are some things we wanted to share with you before the winter break.  Please look for more communication early January in how to prepare for the return to school on January 6.

School Supplies
Consider replenishing school supplies (pencils, notebook paper) over the holidays as students have been working hard this semester.

Staying Safe Over the Holidays
As you have noticed, there was an increase in COVID cases after Thanksgiving break.  Consider small gatherings this holiday, so we can minimize exposure and are able to continue F2F learning through the entire Spring semester.  Continue to help us protect our students, staff, and community by practicing social distancing, mask wearing, and hand sanitizing, even through this upcoming Winter Break.  Here are some guidelines from CDC on how to protect yourself and your family during winter holidays.

Water at LJI
Starting in January, our water fountains will be turned back on for students to refill water bottles. The school will no longer be providing students with bottled water, unless s/he purchases one at lunch.

Second Semester Schedules
Second semester schedules will be finalized on January 5th at 3:30 pm.
Students and their parents/guardians must check the parent or student portal for the 1st period teacher, course and room number at that time.
Students will report to their 1st period classes on January 6th and receive a hard copy of their schedule in 1st period.

Schedule Changes
Students will have the opportunity to complete a Google Form to request elective changes the week of January 11 - 15, 2021.
-- Please do not email and/or call counselors regarding schedule changes.
-- Only schedule changes submitted through the Google Form will be considered.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

LJI Early Release Bell Schedule

December 15, 2020

Good morning, Parents and/or Guardians,

For the 2020-2021 school year, the district adjusted each school’s schedule and added an additional 30 minutes to the school day. Our campus placed the additional 30 minutes of instruction into each period and extended our intervention period (Prime Time).

The district has closely monitored the Covid-19 numbers and been in close contact with campuses on how the additional time has supported our students after being out of school at the end of last year. Based on this data, the district will be reducing the school day by 15 minutes starting in January. We will continue to provide the same services to our students, but the time will be reduced by 15 minutes.

The official dismissal time for LJI will be 3:15p. Therefore, our instructional school hours for students will be 7:30a-3:15p.  There are no other changes in transportation at this time, other than the adjustment in time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the campus.

December 14, 2020

Good Morning LJI families,

Google and all its platforms are having outages.  Therefore, students and teachers may have issues accessing their Google classrooms throughout the day today.

Let students know to just try their best in accessing their work today.  Teachers will continue to be flexible through these technology challenges.

Thank you for your patience through this process!

REMINDER!

Good afternoon, LJI families,

As a reminder, with an increase in student COVID-19 cases, our Lake Jackson Intermediate students will be accessing their instruction remotely (At Home learning) from home this week, December 14-18 with December 18 being a half a day (11:30a).

BISD employees, who have a child(ren) attending LJI face-to-face that is not currently quarantined, will be able to come to campus the week of December 14-18. Please have students enter through the front doors of the building.

With LJI classes being virtual this week, our Child Nutrition Department will be serving all LJI students 3 FREE meals to-go. Pick-up will be from  11:00am-12:30 pm in the bus drive at the back of the school.

Thank you for understanding as we continue to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

December 10, 2020

Good afternoon, LJI Parents/Guardians,

We have seen a recent increase in student COVID-19 cases in the last several days. Unfortunately, we will need to take actions to ensure the safety of our staff and students at this time.

The Lake Jackson Intermediate campus will be closed on Friday (12/11/2020), followed by students transitioning to at home (virtual) learning for the final week of the Fall semester (Dec. 14- Dec. 18).

On Friday, December 11, all virtual and face-to-face learning will be suspended. No classes of any type will take place on Friday, December 11.

Next week (December 14-18), staff will be on campus teaching remotely to all students. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to you; however, it is necessary to ensure the continued safety of our students and staff.

BISD employees, who have a child(ren) attending LJI face-to-face that are not currently quarantined, will be able to come to campus the week of December 14-18.

We truly appreciate your patience and flexibility through these challenging times.  Thank you for your partnership as we continue to work together to keep each other safe and healthy!
