Next Week:  Back to School Information -- August 31, 2020

Our campus doors open at 7:00 a.m.  Please do not drop your child off before 7:00 a.m., as we cannot guarantee they will be socially distanced from other students if they are dropped off to wait outside prior to 7:00 a.m.

Only bus and daycare should be dropped off and picked up in the back entrance of the campus.

Be sure your student has a mask available to wear at all times.  Students will be given a reusable cloth mask from the school as well.

** Carefully read through our "Back to School Information" document below. We have provided you with more information to help get ready for the return of school, whether virtual or face-to-face.  This includes arrival/dismissal, breakfast, and drop-offs/pick-up times and locations starting Monday, August 31.

two week schedule

Bell Schedule:
This bell schedule will begin August 31 for both 7th and 8th At Home Virtual Learning and F2F students. Lunches will be based on a student's 4th or 5th period teacher.  The student's teachers will give more details on the specifics of his/her lunch the first few days.  Possible changes to lunches may occur once we have all students back on campus, in which we will communicate as we determine what change(s) are needed.

Technology:
Parents of Virtual learners- If you need assistance with your child’s chromebook or hotspot, please call 979-730-7450.    If it's concerning Google Meet drops, that is not a Chromebook or internet issue.  It is the system overloading, so consider turning off the camera or signing off and signing back on.  Let the teacher know that you're having connectivity issues if you can't get back on.

Please also refer to the FAQ document attached for more information.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications:
This form needs to be completed annually as part of the student registration process.  We ask that all families complete this application, even if you are virtual; we will have daily curbside meals for our students in the back drive.

7th grade parents: AUGUST 31 DEADLINE
This is just a reminder to incoming 7th grade parents updated immunization records to the school nurse were dueprior to the first day of school. This applies to all students, virtual and face to face. This can be done by fax: 979-292-2804, Attn: Amy Harris, RN or can be directly emailed to the school nurse at [email protected]. Starting the week of August 31, if 7th grade students do not have updated shot records submitted to the nurse, students will need to be picked up until updated ones are submitted to Nurse Harris.

Attendance:
If your student is absent, a note explaining the absence should be turned into our Attendance Office (Ms. Jill Grey) within 48 hours of returning to school.
Daily attendance is recorded for all learners, both virtual and face-to-face.  Please review the Attendance Guidance for Parents document on the district website.
Attendance notes for virtual learners who miss school should be emailed to [email protected] each day.

Parent Notification:
Parents will receive daily notification by email regarding the number of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases at LJI.  Parents will also be notified if their child was in close contact with someone who has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.  Instructions for self-quarantine and virtual learning will be provided at that time.

Please review the COVID-19 Standard Response Protocol listed in the Parent Information Document on the BISD website.

Bus Riders:
If a student will be riding a district bus starting Sept. 8, please be sure to register here, so the transportation can have an accurate count.  If you have already filled out the form, please disregard.

Backpacks:
Students will need to carry class supplies and items with them throughout the day, as lockers will not be issued this year. Backpacks or zipper binders should not impede hallways, walkways in classrooms, or be so cumbersome as to impede a student’s ability to get to class.  Items should be able to comfortably be placed under student desks or chairs. Items should not be larger than 17” height X 13” width X 9” depth.  Students should be able to easily carry their backpack from room to rooms. Rolling backpacks are not permitted.  We encourage students to have a zipper binder, instead of a backpack, as it can easily hold all supplies.

Water Bottles:
Water fountains will be only used for students to refill water bottles. Bringing a water bottle is encouraged.  Water bottles must be transparent (like a Nalgene bottle), so administration can easily see the liquid inside.  Only water is allowed in the water bottle (no energy drinks, sports drinks, soda, coffee, caffeinated or sugary drinks, etc.).

Athletics:
Parents, all athletic paperwork is now being kept electronically other than the physical and medical history form.  Please register your son/daughter on the Rank One website and fill out the necessary forms for your child to be eligible to participate in sports.  The directions (Rank One Account Set-up)are attached.  The physical and health history forms are the only two papers that need to be physically turned in to the coaches.  LJI after school try-outs/practices will begin September 8.  If you are a virtual student, you will need to be dropped off in the back drive (entrance on Oak Drive) at 3:45p.  Please do not drop off students any earlier.

** Athletic try-outs and after school practice will begin September 8.  More information will come in the coming weeks from our coaches.

Safety Precautions:

We are implementing many safety precautions and appreciate your understanding and support.

Please review our BISD Be Ready 2020 Information.

Temperature screening camera at main entrances.

Students and staff are expected to complete a screening each morning before coming to school.  If the answer to any of the screener questions is “yes,” then the student or staff member should not attend school. Linked is the Covid isolation and how to return-to-school flow chart. Please review this document.

Nightly disinfectant fogging of classrooms and common areas

Hand sanitizing stations in each classroom and at main entrances to the building

Student desks have been spaced as far apart as possible in each classroom

Students will maintain social distancing in the hallways before, during, and after school.

Students and staff will wear masks throughout the day. Students will be able to take “mask breaks” during physical activity in PE when they aren’t within 6 feet of others, and while eating breakfast and lunch.

Library books issued to students will not be put back into circulation for 72 hours once they are returned.

Be sure your student has a mask available to wear at all times.  Students will be given a reusable cloth mask from the school as well.  Disposable masks are available at all entrances.

Students indicating they feel any of the symptoms of COVID-19 will be isolated and must be picked up immediately.  Students must complete a three step process or obtain a medical professional’s note or negative test before returning to school.  Please read about the return to school process in the Parent Information Document on the district’s website.

To limit exposure, informal campus visits will be restricted. (Including during meal time). Campus visitors will be limited to those essential for school operations. Before visitors are allowed onto campus, he/she will be screened to determine if he/she has been in close contact with an individual who has COVID-19 symptoms, or are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and if so, he/she must remain off campus until he/she meets the criteria for reentry. When practical, screenings may be supplemented with temperature checks. Essential meetings will be done by appointment or through a virtual format. To ensure the safety of students and staff, no outside food deliveries will be accepted (i.e. food, gifts, doordash, etc.). Until further notice, the use of field trips to enhance the educational experience will be postponed. Until further notice, there will be no large student assemblies.
