Clubs & Organizations

As a student at Lake Jackson Intermediate School, you have the opportunity to become involved in a variety of clubs and after-school activities/events. Below you will find a list of some of the organizations along with sponsor contact information.
We hope that you become involved and enjoy these opportunities!



WEEKLY AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS:


Art Club
This club is for the student who wishes to be creative and experiment in art and painting, and who will gain experiences in the visual arts that they would not otherwise receive during the regular school day. We will decorating the school to show Panther Pride as well as other fun art projects!  You do not need to be in art to join the club.  Simply sign up outside the art room each week.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a cross-curricular, team-based, rigorous, science competition that encompasses all subjects and continuously challenges students of all backgrounds and abilities to strive for excellence in all of their endeavors.

ANNUAL SCHOOL EVENT(S):

Black Cat Productions

All LJI students, whether they are taking the drama class or not, will have the opportunity to audition for at least one "open-casting" production per school year. If selected, these students will work together for many hours after school over a 6-8 week period to create sets, props, and costumes, and to rehearse their various on-stage roles which may include acting, singing, and/or dancing. Then, the group will perform their production multiple times for a public audience.

Geography Bee
The National Geographic society sponsors the National Geographic Bee each year and LJIS has been a proud participant for 6 years! We have sent 3 LJIS students to the State of Texas Geography Bee in Fort Worth and are looking for our next winner.
Students will take a preliminary test in the fall in their Social Studies class.  Those students who qualify will compete in the LJIS Geography Bee in the Spring.

Name that Book Challenge 2019
BISD is hosting the 4th Annual Name That Book Challenge on TBA.  This is an exciting competition for all grade levels in BISD.  The 20 books for the 7th and 8th grades are available in the LJIS Library.  This is the perfect event for students who love to read!

Spelling Bee
The school-wide Spelling Bee takes place in December.  The top two spellers at LJIS will compete at the Brazoria County Spelling Bee in February at LJIS.  Please see the school librarian, Ms. Wood, if you are interested in competing this year. Additionally, more information regarding the Spelling Bee will be presented when classes visit the LJIS Library this fall.

DAILY/WEEKLY SCHOOL EVENT(S):

Coin Club: Coins for A's
Each six weeks, students who make three or more A's on their report cards can submit a copy of their report card to (TBA).  The Houston Coin Club will then send these students collectible coins.

HOSA-Future Health Professionals
HOSA - Future Health Professionals (formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America) is a student-led organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of the Association of Career and Technical Education  (ACTE). HOSA is an encouragement to our students to seek career opportunities in the health industry. HOSA promotes a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition. The purpose of HOSA is to promote career opportunities in health to prepare students to successfully pursue a health career.

Panther Power Dancers
Lake Jackson Power Dancers are a support group for all athletic teams designed to encourage school spirit. The dancers will perform at numerous school functions, games, and dance team competitions. They will develop qualities that will enable them to achieve success in all future endeavors. Tryouts are held at the beginning of the school year.

Robotics Club

Students are challenged to think like scientists and engineers. Mentors will provide assistance to students to develop projects and to learn robotic coding.

Student Council

In late September, interested students will need to get an application from the counselor's office.   Student Council hosts a variety of student functions.
