Clubs & Organizations

As a student at Lake Jackson Intermediate School, you have the opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of clubs and activities. Below you will find a list of some of the clubs at LJI along with sponsor e-mail links.  We hope that you become involved and enjoy these opportunities!

Art Club
This club is for the student who wishes to be creative and experiment in art and painting, and who will gain experiences in the visual arts that they would not otherwise receive during the regular school day. You do not need to be in art to join the club.  Simply sign up outside the art room each week.

Black Cat Productions

All LJI students, whether they are taking the drama class or not, will have the opportunity to audition for at least one "open-casting" production per school year. If selected, these students will work together for many hours after school over a 6-8 week period to create sets, props, and costumes, and to rehearse their various on-stage roles which may include acting, singing, and/or dancing. Then, the group will perform their production multiple times for a public audience.

Broadcasting Club
Students will make the daily announcements during Prime Time and create videos each week of student events.

Coin Club: Coins for A's
Each six weeks, students who make three or more A's on their report cards can submit a copy of their report card to Mrs. Rice.  The Houston Coin Club will then send these students collectible coins.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes - FCA
FCA is an organization that teaches athletes about playing sports for God and through Christ. We will meet once a week in the mornings and do a weekly devotional.

Geography Bee
This will be our second year to compete in the Geography Bee. All interested students should contact the school's librarian, Ms. C. Wood, for more information regarding this exciting competition!

Guitar Club

Guitar club is an informal gathering of students who would like to play guitar. You do not have to know how to play when you come. We have guitars to use in the club so you don't need to bring your own guitar unless you want to. Come by and enjoy the company of other guitar players and learn with or teach others to play. We will start meeting the third week of school.

H.O.B.O.'s is a club for young students to have the opportunity to do great things for the community while camping and learning life-long work skills and ethics.

HOSA-Future Health Professionals
HOSA - Future Health Professionals (formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America) is a student-led organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of the Association of Career and Technical Education  (ACTE). HOSA is an encouragement to our students to seek career opportunities in the health industry. HOSA promotes a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition. The purpose of HOSA is to promote career opportunities in health to prepare students to successfully pursue a health career.

Interact is a club for students who desire to have the chance to make a difference in the community while having fun.  The club will have two service projects; one school/community and one promoting international understanding.  Our chapter is supported by Rotary.

Junior Historian
Did you know Lake Jackson was named, “The City of Enchantment” by a previous Junior Historian Club at Lake Jackson Intermediate? I challenge you to take the baton and make your mark on Lake Jackson, no Brazoria County. Why stop there, how about Texas or the National Level? Thats right. You will be part of a statewide organization and may compete in a regional competition and advance to the Texas State or be a National Champion. We  will be learning about the history of Brazoria County. Students may conduct oral histories, while others give tours at the Varner Hogg Plantation. You may help write or act in a short skit about the history of the area. Many opportunities are available.

Kingdom Builders
Kingdom Builders is a student-led Bible study club. We will be looking at what it means to be a Christian, to  follow Christ, and to use the Bible to help with your daily walk. We will have guest speakers from the community who will lead the weekly study.

Name that Book Challenge 2016
BISD is hosting the 4th Annual Name That Book Challenge on TBA.  This is an exciting competition for all grade levels in BISD.  The 20 books for the 7th and 8th grades are available in the LJIS Library.  This is the perfect event for students who love to read!

Panther Power Dancers
Lake Jackson Power Dancers are a support group for all athletic teams designed to encourage school spirit. The dancers will perform at numerous school functions, games, and dance team competitions. They will develop qualities that will enable them to achieve success in all future endeavors. Tryouts are held at the beginning of the school year.

Recycling Club

In early September, applications will need to picked up from the counselors' office.   Those who are selected to participate will meet every Wednesday morning to have a brief meeting and recycle.

Robotics Club

Students will develop robots using the Lego Mindstorm kits in order to compete with other schools in the spring in Houston.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a cross-curricular, team-based, rigorous, science competition that encompasses all subjects and continuously challenges students of all backgrounds and abilities to strive for excellence in all of their endeavors.

Spelling Bee
The school-wide Spelling Bee takes place in December.  The top two spellers at LJIS will compete at the Brazoria County Spelling Bee in February at LJIS.  Please see the school librarian, Ms. Wood, if you are interested in competing this year. Additionally, more information regarding the Spelling Bee will be presented when classes visit the LJIS Library this fall.

Student Council

In late September, interested students will need to get an application from the counselors' office.   Student Council hosts a variety of student functions.

World Explorers - WE
World Explorers will delve into the different cultures from around the world through hands on activities, cultural cuisine, guest speakers, and the use of technology.
